Matty appeared in the doorway vigorously towelling his hair. His eyes lit up when he saw her there. "Morning Juu." he said. "Morning Matthew." she replied. He slung the towel around his shoulders and moved across the kitchen to where she stood. He put one arm around her slim waist and pulled her towards him, his lips searching for and finally finding hers. Breaking the kiss he looked deep into her soft blue eyes and absentmindedly ran his fingers through her silky hair. She smiled back at him and caught his hand. "You had better hurry up and eat your breakfast or you will be late for work ." He rolled his eyes at the thought. "Wouldn't that make the supervisor happy!" he thought. He ate his breakfast & headed for the door. She was waiting for him. He put his arm around her shoulders, "What have you got planned for today?" he asked. "I'm meeting up with my bridesmaid for our final fitting of the dresses." she replied. "hmmm wonder if I can sneak a peek.." he whispered. She swatted his arm playfully, "Now you know that its bad luck to see the brides dress before the day." she said. He lifted her chin and stole a quick kiss. "Meet me for lunch?" he asked. "The usual place?" She replied. "Yes. Around one? " he said. "See you there." she replied and Matty went
out & got into the car and drove off down the street. Juuhachigou went back inside and cleaned up the kitchen. A little while later dressed in a white shirt and black skirt she headed into town to the bridal shop for her last fitting. When she arrived she noted she was slightly early and her bridesmaid wasn't there yet. She went inside the shop. "Well Madame, just a couple of tucks here and that should be it." said Nancy the sales assistant. Juu sighed softly as she looked at herself in the mirror. Tears began to form in her eyes, she felt so happy. "Madame, you look simply stunning. He's a very lucky man." said Nancy. "Yes I am" she replied then added quietly "I 'm a very lucky woman to have found him." The bell of the door broke into the moment and both Juu & the sales girl looked up at the intrusion. "You look gorgeous Juu." said the person. "Deb!" squealed Juu "You made it okay." Juu moved towards the other girl and gave her a hug. "Well I did promise you I would be here, and have I ever let you down yet?" smiled Deb. Juu laughed, "No.... no you haven't." The assistant gave a polite cough. "Oh I'm sorry Nancy, this is my bridesmaid and best friend Deb." said Juu. "Pleased to meet you." said Nancy. "I wasn't here when you came in for your original fitting but I have heard a lot about you." "Don't believe any of it, None of it's true." laughed Deb. "I'll just go & get changed and then we can sort out the final fitting of your dress Deb. Wont be a minute." said Juu and she disappeared into the change room. Half an hour later both Juuhachigou and Deb left the bridal shop and headed to the local coffee shop. "I'm so glad that you agreed to be my bridesmaid." said Juuhachigou. "I'm honoured that you asked me." replied
Deb. Juuhachigou stared at her friend, it was fitting that she shared
her special day. As they sat drinking their coffees Juu let her mind
wander. Not long after Krillin had taken Juu in she had met Deb. Juuhachigoiu
would begin to frequent the local cafe where Deb worked as a waitress
and it wasn't long before the dark haired girl served her on a regular
basis. Juu would arrive and Deb would automatically fetch her favourite
drink, cappuchino with cinnamon not chocolate on top. Deb also noticed
that the blonde haired girl had sad eyes and solemn expression. Being
a kind hearted soul Deb had taken to Juu and offered the girl friendship,
something Juu desperately needed. It seemed to Juuhachi that Deb filled
that gap that Krillin couldn't. She was and ally, someone she could
share a laugh with, someone she could confide in and talk through
her hopes and fears with. Since the loss of her brother which had
affected her more deeply than anyone ever would know she had been
trying to stay afloat in a deep ocean of fears and misunderstandings.
there was a void in her life, a void left when Juunanagou had been
so ruthlessly taken from her. Deb filled that void, that place of
need. She became a sister of sorts and Juuhachigou was determined
that her friend would be there to share all her special moments. "Hey... Anyone home?" said Deb waving her hand in front of Juu's face. "What? Oh sorry" smiled Juuhachi "I was miles away." Deb took another sip of her coffee, "I was asking you what flowers we are going to have in the bouquets." "Roses" replied Juuhachi, "Cream, peach and white with a sprinkling of maidenhair fern and baby's breath through out." she said. "Lovely, roses are my favourite flower." replied Deb. "Mine too." said Juu dreamily, "The men will have matching buttonholes." "Gorgeous. Well I gotta dash Juu I will call you later about the rehearsal time okay?" said Deb. "Oh gosh, is that the time?" said Juuhachi, "I'd better hurry or I will be late meeting Matty for lunch." The two friends got up and giving each other a hug went their separate ways. He saw her coming through the park, his eyes roved over her body as she made her way down the path towards him. She was so beautiful. He had to pinch himself some days to make sure it wasn't all a dream. He couldn't help but note jealously how she managed to turn the heads of pretty much every other male within visual distance. She smiled & waved as she spotted him, his chest swelled with pride as he was again reminded that it was him with whom she had chosen to spend the rest of her existence. He rose to greet her enveloping her soft body in his arms. He kissed her. "Miss me?" she teased. "Lots" he replied. They sat on the bench and he passed her a sandwich. "How did it go this morning?" he asked as he took a bite of his own sandwich. She swallowed. "Well thats the last of the fittings so its pretty much all finished." "I wish I could have seen you." He said wistfully his eyes boring through hers. "Now, you know its bad luck to see the brides dress before the wedding. You will just have to wait a little longer." she teased. he groaned. "I know, but I just wish this was all over and we were married now ." She looked deep into his eyes. "It wont be much longer now Matty." "Yeah I suppose so. Seeing how I have waited this long another 12 days isn't going to make a whole lot of difference" he replied. 'I just need to get through this week at work then a weeks holiday before the ceremony on the Saturday.' he thought to himself. "It will all happen soon enough my love." she whispered, "Then we will have the rest of our days together." He smiled at this thought. Juu ran her finger down the
side of his face and turned his lips to meet hers. "Don't forget you have an appointment at the suit hire this afternoon." she said. "I hadn't forgotten. I will pick Dave up on the way so I'll meet you there shall I ?" he said. "Yep, no problem." she replied. He finished off the last of the sandwiches and crushing the paper wrapping into a tight ball got up to leave. "I guess I had better get back." he said. "Okay then. I have to call at the florist to check on the flowers then do some shopping so I will see you later at the suit hire." she replied. She reached up and gave him a quick kiss. "Better hurry up, you don't want to get on the dark side of the supervisor." she teased. He gave her a rueful smile. "Knowing my luck he would cancel my holidays." he said. She laughed, "Maybe we should have invited him to the wedding." He stared at her.... "No way !! Not after the way he has treated me lately" he growled. "Calm down tiger, I'm only joking." she said, "Now get going & I will see you later." He gave her a quick hug and headed back to work. She watched him leave then departed for the florist. The supervisor looked up as Matty came back behind the counter. Matthew gave him his best cheesy grin while at the same time thinking of the countless number of ways he could tell him exactly where he could put his job. Matty spotted a customer and went off to be of assistance, feeling the supervisors eyes following him. The mean old sod hadn't given him a moments peace. Ever since he had found out that Matty was getting married and that he hadn't been invited he had deliberately set out to make Matthew's life at work a living nightmare. He was constantly on his back, watching the clock and looking for any excuse no matter how trivial to get at him. Matthew made sure he was on his toes at all times, not for one instance giving the supervisor a chance to have a go at him. He needed this job but the strain was beginning to get to him. Still there was no way in hell that Matty was going to let the supervisor get the better of him. One more week.... just one more week was all he had to last and then he was away from that sod for 4 whole weeks. He couldn't wait. At last the day drew to a close and Matty clocked off relieved at having made it through yet another trying 8 hours. "One down & four more to go." he muttered as he climbed into his car to go & fetch Dave. Dave was waiting for him and jumped in as soon as Matty pulled up. "How was work?" asked Dave. Matty pulled a face. "That good huh?" laughed Dave. Matty ran a hand through his hair & groaned. "Oh what I wouldn't give to tell that old codger where he could put his job." "Never mind. Maybe one day." laughed Dave. "Yeah and pigs might fly." replied Matty. They pulled up at the suit hire, Juuhachigou was waiting for them. "Hi Dave." she said. "Hi there Juu." replied Dave as he gave her a hug. They went into the shop and the guys took the suits and dutifully got changed while Juu waited patiently for them to re appear. At last they emerged laughing at each other. "I feel like a penguin." laughed Matty. "Take it from me, you look like one too!" grinned Dave. "Well unlike some others at least I don't look like a fairy penguin." Chuckled Matthew With that remark Dave went into hysterics. Juuhachigou looked from one giggling man to the other & shook her head, she really didn't get the joke but then it made her happy just to see Matty laugh, he had been under such strain lately that laughter was becoming a rare feature. "Okay children. How about we get serious now?" she said smiling at the two clowns in front of her. "Yes ma'am" said Dave bowing low. "Your wish is my command." said Matty also bowing low. Juuhachi threw her hands up in the air in exasperation. "Can't you 2 be serious for just one minute?" she scolded. Matty & Dave looked at each other.. "No " they replied together & dissolved into fits of laughing again. Juu sighed and folding her arms gave up and let them get on with it. Somehow the managed to get through the rest of the fitting with only minor bouts of hysterics and Juuhachigou managing to stay calm & controlled. As they left the shop they bade Dave farewell, "I'll call you and let you know what time the rehearsal is." said Matty. "Sure, no worries." replied Dave. "Take it easy and I will see you guys later." Dave walked off into the evening. Matty put his arm around Juu's shoulders and pulled
her close to him. "Come on, lets go home. I'm hungry." said
Matty. When they got home Matty headed for the shower and Juu went into the kitchen to finish making dinner. As the water ran over his body washing away the days stress & tensions so Matty mused over Juu, wondering just what culinary delight she would come up with tonight. Not all that long ago they had both joined cookery classes but unfortunately he had had to drop out due mainly to the pressures of his day job but Juuhachi had kept going and was thoroughly enjoying the lessons. Matty didn't mind as she was turning into an excellent cook and he was more than a willing subject for her to try out new recipes and dishes on. Delicious smells assulted his nostrils as he stepped out of the shower. His stomach growled in response to the stimulus. He dried off quickly and pulling on his old favourite pair of jeans went in the direction of the kitchen. "Mmmm. Something smells delicious." he said. He walked over to the stove and lifted the spoon from the pot. he was just about to sneak a taste when Juu smacked his hand. "Don't you dare!" she said and took the spoon off him. "Awww. Thats not fair." he grinned mischievously. "Do you think you could go and watch the TV and get me the lotto numbers please." she asked. "Okay, you win." he said and gave her a quick kiss on the back of the neck. He grabbed a beer from the fridge and went into the lounge. He flicked the TV on and opened his beer. he watched the end of the news and then scribbled down the numbers. "Dinners ready!" called Juu. He got up & turned off the TV before going back out into the kitchen for dinner |
