Chapter 3
The morning of the wedding dawned clear. A few lazy clouds made their way across the skies, and a light breeze blew. Juu awoke to the sounds of many birds. She got up and went to the kitchen. The house seemed empty without Matty there. He had stayed at Daves and would get himself ready there. She made herself a cup of coffee and stood staring out the window into the garden deep in thought. her mind began to wander from her beginning in the lab to her subsequent raping of the planet to her rescue by Krillin and then to her final happiness with Matthew. Her life certainly had taken some twists & turns but now it seemed that it had come full circle. At last she had found the peace she so desperatley craved, her soul, if she had had one would have been cleansed and her life was ready to go forward into the next phase, a phase that she was more than ready & willing to enter. The ringing of the doorbell brought her daydreaming
to an end. Matt awoke to the same blue sky and cotton candy clouds.
He stretched and lay staring at the ceiling. So today was finally
here. All the hustle & bustle, worry, stress short tempers, frayed
nerves and expense of the last few months & weeks all cumulated
in this day. He turned his head & looked at the suit hanging on
the front of the wardrobe and sighed. A knock at the door broke into
his thoughts. "Come in." he said and Dave appeared carrying
2 cups of coffee. "So how does it feel to finally be stepping off death row?" chuckled Dave passing Matt a mug of steaming coffee. Matty looked at his mate and smiled "I don't quite look at it that way." he replied quietly. "I know. I'm just trying to keep the mood light." said Dave, "Besides its traditional for us guys to carry on like this and you sure don't want to break with tradition now do you?" Matty smiled "No I guess not." "What would you like for breakfast?" asked Dave. "I don't think I could eat a thing at the moment." replied Matt. "Come on, you have to eat something. I cant have you passing out on me during the ceremony now otherwise Juu would rip me limb from limb." said Dave. "Alright, alright, I give up. A piece of toast will do me." said Matt. Dave turned to leave, "Come down to the kitchen as soon as your ready & I will have breakfast on the table." he said and then left the room. Matt sat up and took a sip of the coffee. The hot liquid
warmed him and chased the butterflies away. "Better get up &
make a start." he thought to himself and threw back the covers
and pulling on a pair of shorts went to find Dave & breakfast. Juuhachigou pulled a face at Deb who tried hard not to laugh. The girls were in the middle of getting their hair & make up done. The hairdresser was trying to tame Juus hair into a soft roll pinned up on her head with a few strands loose to frame her face but the silky blonde strands didn't want to co operate. The cosmetics lady was busy putting the finishing touches to Debs face and she knew better than to start laughing now & risk the wrath of the woman. Finally the face was finished and Juus hair pulled into submission. The girls stood looking at themselves in the mirror. "Oh wow. Is that really me?" said Juu. "Sure is." said Deb. "You look absolutely stunning. Matty is going to swoon when he sees you." she smiled. Juu turned & studied herself, who could have thought that just a simple hair style could make such a difference? "Time to get your dress on and add the finishing touches, the cars will be here in an hour." said Deb. Juu turned away from the mirror and went to finish
getting ready. "Aghhhh! " screamed Matty. "Whats wrong?" yelled Dave running into the bed room. Matty stood in front of the mirror with the tie in hand and a face that looked fit to burst. "This...this...this.....tie! It wont go properly!" he stormed. "Is that all?" said Dave, "From the yell you gave I thought you had been attacked or given a size too small suit." said Dave. "Come here and let me do it for you. No wonder you cant do it up, your that nervous your all thumbs." laughed Dave. Matt handed him the tie and hung his head. "Im sorry mate. Its just that I want everything to be perfect." said Matty. "I know and it will be." said Dave. "There... all done." Dave turned Matt around to look at himself in the mirror. "You do look quite the dashing young man." smiled Dave. "I hope that Juu realises just what a great guy she is getting hitched to." Matthew stared at the image before him lost in his own thoughts. " I just hope she turns up." he thought out loud. "Dont worry about that mate, she will be there. And speaking of being there its time we went." said Dave. With one last glance Matt left the room and got into
the car that was to take him to where his destiny awaited. Matty & Dave stood with the celebrant checking over the last minute details. Guests had begun to arrive and congregate around the the area that had been set aside for the ceremony. Most of Matts friends were there and a few of Juu's from her days with Krillin. Everyone began to get into some sort of order as the time for the bride to appear arrived. Matt looked at his watch for the fifth time. "Shes late." he muttered to Dave. "Relax, she will be here." replied Dave. "Its traditional for the bride to be late." said the celebrant. Matt glanced at his watch yet again and ran his tongue over his dry lips, then his attention was caught by the arrival of the cars. "I told you she would be here." said Dave and gave Matty a reassuring punch to the arm. The cars pulled up just out of view but the small crowd all turned ready to watch the procession as it made its way up the path. First came Deb carrying a small bouquet of cream, white & peach rose buds that matched the peach & cream of the three quarter length off the shoulder gown that she wore. Both Dave & Matt stared at her as she walked slowly towards them. Deb looked at Matt and gave him a reassuring smile. Matt turned his eyes back to the path where he watched as his bride appeared. Matts eyes began to water with the vision they beheld. Comming towards him on Krillins arm was an angel. She was just simply beautiful. The hair piled on her head with a sparkling tiara adorning and holding the veil started the vision. The dress was a full length gown that was off the shoulder and the sleeves going three quarters down the soft pink arms. The waist was gatherd and dipped into a full skirt. The entire ensemble was made of Satin & lace that shimmered gently in the sun shine. Matty heard Dave let go a deep breath beside him. "Wow..." said Dave softly. "Isn't she just gorgeous?" Matty tried to swallow the lump in his throat as he watched his angel walk towards him. "Shes just so beautiful and soon she will be mine forever." whispered Matt to Dave. As Juu reached Matt so she smiled hesitantly at him, her heart was racing and she felt as though a bee hive was in her stomach. She was sure that everyone could see her legs shaking. Krillin reluctantly let go of her arm as Matt took her hand in his and he walked sadly back to be with his friends, He was honoured that Juu had asked him to give her away and yet found it the hardest thing he had ever had to do. But he wanted her to be happy and if this helped then so be it. The celebrant began the ceremony. As the vows were exchanged and they reached the part where the celebrant asked for any one with any reason as to why they shouldnt be married to speak now or forever hold their peace Juu held her breath. She could hear the odd muffled sound but nothing coherant. She chanced a look at the guests and saw to her amusement that Krillin was being slightly smothered by Gohan & Trunks. As the celebrant continued so Matty and Juu both began to relax. Dave had them all jittery again however by "forgetting" the rings but soon found them when given a stern look from Deb. Matty repeated the words the celebrant said as he gently slid the ring down Juuhachigous finger to nestle at the base. Before Matty knew it they had reached the end of the ceremony and he heard the celebrant say those magical words he had been waiting all his life to hear... "I now pronounce you man & wife. You may kiss the bride." He reached forward & tenderly took the end of the
veil in his fingers and lifted it over Juus head exposing her radiant
face to him. He put his arms around her and pulled her gently towards
him. He looked deep into her eyes as he claimed her lips for his own.
Everyone cheered as they broke the kiss and stared at each other enjoying
the moment, then they turned and walked towards their friends to accept
the good wishes, comments and confetti. The reception had been going for some time and the meal was over. The cake had been cut and speeches rendered. Matty sat watching Juu having a dance with Dave when Krillin came up to him. Matty looked at the bald man and waited for him to speak. "I just wanted to say that despite everything that has happend between us I wish you both all the best. I just want her to be happy and she is happy with you so please take care of her." Krillin looked away and stared silently at Juu, Matthew realised just how much it had cost Krillin to come over to him and say those words. He looked at the hairless man in front of him and put his hand out. Krillin reached forward & they shook hands. "I promise I will never hurt her." said Matt. "Good." replied Krillin "Thankyou for doing what you did for her, she wont ever forget that and niether will I." said Matty Krillin looked at him, nodded and then walked off into the crowd. The music ended and Dave escorted Juu back to her seat. She smiled at Matty as she sat down. He reached out and rested his hand against her cheek She looked deep into his eyes and said "I'm ready to leave whenever you are." He smiled at her and gave her a kiss, "Then lets start saying our goodbyes." he whispered softly. They made their way around the guests saying their farewells until they reached their starting point. Matty took Juu by the hand and let her to the front of the hotel reception. Juu stopped and turned her back to the group before throwing her bouquet over her shoulder & into the crowd where a very happy Deb caught it. Then with a wave to everyone they got into Matty's car and drove off. Juu rested her head back and closed her eyes. "Are you okay?" asked Matt. "Oh yes." she replied. "I was just thinking what a wonderful day this has been." she smiled and reached across resting her hand on Mattys arm. "Well it sure was eventful." said Matty "And this is only the beginning, we have the rest of our lives together." he said softly. Soon they reached their destination and Matty went into the Hotel reception to pick up the keys to the honeymoon suite. It felf strange but nice to sign the book as Mr & Mrs Afflick. Matty unlocked the door and picking Juuhachigou up in his arms he carried her over the threshold. "Welcome to married bliss Mrs Affleck." he said softly and kissed her as his foot nudged the door shut behind them........ |
