CHAPTER 14: TRUNKS TO THE RESCUE

"What do I have to do?" Trunks repeated the question.
Kuilian smiled his gratitude. "Trusting me will be the first step. It's
going to be dangerous. Arianna is heavily guarded, and we must move quickly.
I don't know how much longer she will be able to last against Pinath and his
assaults." Kuilian sighed deeply, /Not to mention the rest of them./ He
said silently.
"Rest of who?" Trunks asked looking at Kuilian suspiciously.
Kuilian quickly bobbed his head up to look Trunks squarely in the eyes.
"What?" He asked.
"Rest of who?" Trunks repeated.
Kuilian shook his head. "I forgot we can hear one another's thoughts
now." Kuilian chided himself. "Pinath is not the only one who," Kuilian
stopped speaking, his mind trying to find an easy way to say what was
happening to Arianna. /Attacking? No, um?how can I put it nicely. I can't
just come out and say that half the militia is raping her!/
"What?!" Trunks eyes opened wide in surprise. "Half the Militia?
You're joking I hope!"
Kuilian looking down to the carpeted floor, examining it's off red shade.
"No," He said quietly. "Pinath is not the only one abusing Arianna
sexually. Iterias would like to put a stop to it, but as I told you, his
hands are tied and they all know it. That's why I came here."
"When will we leave?" Trunks asked, walking to stand in front of Kuilian.
"We must talk first. There are some things that you must understand."
Kuilian sat down on the couch next to Bra, smiling at her fondly. The young
girl would shortly be his sister in law; he didn't know how he felt about
such a thing. "Arianna is heavily guarded, as I said before, and she is only
removed from her prison chambers three times a day, to be taken out to the
lake near Iterias' command ship. Once in the early morning, once after
mid-day and last after nightfall. Early morning or late nightfall would be
your best bet to try and rescue her, the guards are usually still slightly
groggy at each time."
Kuilian shook his head sadly. "I fear the condition she will be in when
we arrive. We must hurry! Are you taking others with you or will it just be
you and I? How ever you want to do it just be prepared!"
Trunks looked over at his father, Vegeta was just pushing himself away
from the wall, slowly walking towards them. He swung his gaze over to his
sister; Bra was watching their father intently, probably deciding whether or
not it was safe to say she wanted to go too. "I'll call Goten and Gohan up,
they might want to go along too." Trunks finally said.
"Don't forget Pan," Bra threw in. "She'd like to have a go at that
Pinath too."
Trunks turned frosted eyes to his sister, "He is mine!" He growled. "If
I see him, I'll kill the fucking bastard with my own bare hands!"
Kuilian laid a restraining hand on Trunks shoulder. "Keep your temper in
check now my friend, you will need your wits about you in the next few hours.
Lives hang in the balance." /Much more than you will ever know,/ the
thought glided through his mind.
Trunks turned bewildered eyes towards him. "Just make your calls,"
Kuilian said, unable to meet his gaze.
Trunks strode over to the phone and began dialing the numbers. They
would leave within the hour.

Arianna sighed, the breath rattling painfully in her chest. Her entire
body ached, and she could feel the blood drying from a thousand tiny
scratches all over her exposed body. Her ribs hurt, and probably were
bruised if not broken. Her latest encounter with Pinath had been a terrible
one, he had tried to beat her to death, of that she was sure, if nothing
else. Her eyes were opened, but the room was pitch black, which in itself
was nothing new.
She could hear a rodent scurrying around on the floor, probably foraging
for some dropped pieces of food. As long as it didn't try making a meal of
her, she didn't care what it did. The door creaked open and Arianna cringed
with the sound. /Who is it know?/ she wondered, peering at the slowly
opening door. /Who's come to degrade me this time?/ She wondered.
/Arianna?/ the voice popped into her head like a welcome cool breeze on
a hot sunny day.
Arianna's head popped up, glancing at the figure silhouetted in the
doorway. /Kyetta?/ She sent out, /Is it really you?/
/Yes,/ Kyetta's soft voice echoed in Arianna's head. /I bring you
news, from Kuilian./ Kyetta strode into the room, never taking her eyes from
her best friend. The look in her eyes told Arianna enough though. /You look
terrible!/ She exclaimed, perching on the bed next to her old friend. /Was
it Pinath again?/
Arianna barely nodded her head. /I think perhaps he was trying to kill
the child. He would like nothing more than for me to loose the baby.?/
Arianna shook her head sadly. /How can he be so heartless?/
/Don't worry; I've news from Kuilian! He's been in contact with
Trunks; even now they are on their way here to get you out. By sunrise you
should be gone, and safe with your love./ Kyetta looked worriedly towards
the door. The guard still stood out there, his back towards them, just
gazing across the hallway. /Kylar will be dropping the force field just long
enough for them to get in. Then Iterias and Hiurian will make sure that the
coast is clear to your chambers. One of Kylar's men will be guarding your
door; he will not sound the alarm. My brother had assured us that he is
trustworthy and will not reveal what is about to happen./ Kyetta smiled.
/When you are ready to leave, Kylar will drop the shield again and you
will be gone. The guard will claim he was knocked unconscious and knows
nothing of what went on. Kylar will make it look like the shield went down
from a malfunction and no one will be the wiser. You will be far from here
before they even realize you are gone!/
Arianna, disbelief written all over her face, looked at her friend.
/Trunks is coming here? He's coming here after me?/ She couldn't
believe it! /Kuilian explained everything to him?/
/Not everything,/ Kyetta smiled warmly. /He doesn't know about the
baby yet, Kuilian felt that was your secret to reveal. Besides, your brother
wanted to make sure that Trunks was rescuing you because he wanted to, not
because he felt obligated to do so./
Arianna smiled faintly. /I'm glad,/ she sighed. Her breath was
becoming raspy again, it was getting so hard to breath, and her ribs ached.
That was were Pinath had concentrated his assault, her ribs and abdomen. /I
just know he was trying to make me loose the baby, I just know it!/ Arianna
sighed, looking up into Kyetta's eyes.
Kyetta smile wanly. /I wish there was more I could do for you my friend.
It grows late and I must prepare./ She bent and kissed Arianna gently on
the cheek. An acidic smell hovered around Arianna; it took Kyetta a moment
to discover that the smell was from Arianna's drying blood. She wrinkled her
nose in disgust. /I hope Pinath pays for what he's done to you!/
Arianna's eyes welled up with tears, /I do to./ She sighed, a single
tear working it's way down her cheek.
Kyetta looked away, and slowly started to walk out the door, she turned
around briefly. /Not much longer and you shall be free of this place!/
Arianna just nodded her head.

************************************************************

Trunks glanced around at his friends and family. Gohan and Videl were
there, as was their daughter Pan. Goten was there, and so was his mother
Chichi. Trunks parents, Vegeta and Bulma were also there, and so was his
sister Bra. Krillin and his wife, Android 18, had just showed up with their
daughter Marron. He'd asked Piccolo to come, but the Namek had something
else that was also important to do. The others just hadn't been able to make
it.
Vegeta stared at his son, watching his every move. "Are we going to
leave anytime soon boy?" Vegeta fairly growled. Then he turned his midnight
glare over to the Arcaticain that was lounging against a tree trunk, away
from the assembled group. "Or is this some sort of Arcaticain trap?"
Kuilian turned his sky blue gaze over to the pure blooded Saiyan. "We
will leave when my commander tells me things are ready. We will not move a
moment before!" Kuilian looked over at Trunks, "Our timing means everything.
My mate's brother will make sure that the Force Shield is down when we are
ready to advance."
Trunks turned to face Kuilian, "How long do you figure?"
Kuilian shook his head, "It's hard to tell." He looked up into the still
bright sky. "We won't be able to go in until it is dark, especially if you
insist on taking her directly from her chambers." He shook his head in
amazement. "I still don't understand why you won't wait until she is
removed from the chambers. It would be a lot easier to take her then."
Trunks walked over to stand in front of the puzzled Arcaticain. "That's
why I don't want to. They'll expect us to try while she's out. They won't
expect us to try while she's locked up. Always try what the enemy is least
expecting." Trunks looked over to his father for confirmation. Vegeta just
barely nodded his head.
Kuilian just shook his head in bafflement. "You Saiyans are a strange
lot, aren't you?"
Trunks just softly laughed. "Ok, so Kylar will let the shield down, and
Iterias and Hiurian will make sure the way is clear to Arianna?"
Kuilian got up and stood next to Trunks. "Yes, I will let Kylar know
when we are ready to strike. He will lead his regiment of men over to the
far north of the Shield, to the control tower, and 'accidentally' allow the
shield to fall, his men will be doing training exercises, so they won't know
what has gone on. After we have passed through the inactive shield, I will
alert Kylar so he can turn it back on. Once we are within the encampment, I
will contact Iterias and Hiurian. They will make sure that all militia are
off doing errands of some sort or another and that no one will happen upon
us. Kylar said he will make sure that one of the men from his regiment is
transferred to guard Arianna's chambers. He will hand pick him so we know he
will not sound the alarm."
Kuilian glanced around at the gathered crowd, all intent on listening to
the plan. "Once you have released Arianna, Kylar will take the shield off
line for a second, and hopefully last time. Once the shield goes back up,
you should be gone, hopefully Arianna safely with you."
Trunks nodded his head with approval. "Father," He turned to face his
father, just off to his left, Vegeta inclined his head to look back at his
son. "If we happen upon Pinath, I want first crack at him, understood?"
Vegeta glared at his son, Trunks turned at Pan?s quick intake of breath.
"Don't even think about it Pan! I will kill the monster with my bare hands
if given the chance."
Pan turned her dark eyes down to the grassy ground. "Yeah, I
understand." She said quietly. "But, if I get the chance, and you're not
around, I'll take a swing at the bastard myself." She turned her dark gaze
over to her best friend. "No one hurts one of my friends and gets away with
it!"
Bra just smiled her understanding, but didn't say a word.

*********************************************************

Kyetta glanced at the chronometer on her bedside dresser. It would soon
be dark, she could feel Kuilian approaching, she reached her mind out, gently
caressing his mind. She felt a gentle caress given in return. /See you
soon./ She sent silently, unsure if he could hear her over the distance that
separated them. She threw a robe over her bare body, having just stepped out
of the shower. Droplets of water still clung to her fragrant skin when a
bell sounded from the door. Someone was seeking admittance.
"Who is it?" She called through the door, walking slowly towards it,
trying to get a feel of the presence behind it. She felt no one there, so
she knew it was no one related to Kuilian or herself.
"Pinath," Came the gruff reply through the door.
"Don't open it!" A voice screamed through her brain. It sounded so
much like Arianna's that she had to stop and glance around her chambers,
thinking her best friend was right there with her. But Arianna wasn't there;
she was still bound down in the lower decks of the command ship.
Kyetta reached for the door release, /Don't let him in!/ The voice
screamed again, sounding like the speaker was standing right next to her.
Kyetta jumped backwards, glancing nervously around. The door buzzed again.
Kyetta gritted her teeth together.
"Kyetta, I need to talk to you, it's about Kuilian." Pinath said from
the other side of the door.
She eyed the door, debating whether or not to open it. /If I touch it
again, will I hear the voice again?/ She wondered. Hesitantly she reached
her fingers towards the open mechanism. The door buzzed again, and once
again she jumped back in terror.
"Kyetta?" Came Pinath's gruff voice again.
Kyetta quickly punched the release mechanism, ignoring the sinking
feeling in the back of her mind. Pinath came breezing through the open
doors. Kyetta jumped back as he brushed up against her. "Wh-What do you
want?" She stuttered, her tongue feeling suddenly like cotton inside her
mouth.
"To discuss your husband." Pinath replied, walking over to a couch in the
living space and sitting down without being asked too.
"Wh-what about him?"
"Where is he?" Pinath asked, surveying his surroundings.
"I d-don't k-know," She lied.
"Oh, I'm sure you do," he smiled like the cat that just caught the mouse.
"No, I-I don't," she stuttered.
"Come now, my dear Kyetta," Pinath sighed, "Your husband wouldn't just up
and leave without telling you anything. You know where he is and you're
going to tell me!" His voice raised just a notch with anger.
Kyetta cringed, her eyes widening in fear. "N-no, I don't k-know where
K-Kuilian went. H-he didn't tell me anything." Her voice started to crack,
and she feared she would brake down in hysterics any moment now.
Pinath lounged on the couch, his arm draped over the back of it. He
turned his eyes to look coldly at the woman standing before him. /She is
pretty, but not nearly as beautiful as Arianna./ He thought to himself. His
eyes wondered boldly over her small frame.
Kyetta trembled in fear. /I should have listened, I shouldn't have let
him in./ She thought in despair.
Pinath leaned forward, placing both of his elbows on his knees. He
rested his chin on his upturned palms. "You're going to tell me where your
husband went!" Pinath whispered in frustration. "Did he go to fetch
Arianna's bastard's father?" His eyes nearly turned into slits as he glared
at Kyetta. "Where did he go?" His voice became soft, quiet.
The hair on the back of Kyetta's neck stood up in warning. Something was
going to happen, she could just feel it. "I don't know." She said quietly.
He jumped at her suddenly, roaring in anger. His hands closed around her
throat. She struggled, her fingers clawing at his face, trying to gouge out
his eyes. He growled in annoyance, shaking her roughly. She could feel her
feet lifting off of the floor and her mind panicked.
She wasn't exactly sure what she did, but the next moment, Pinath was
gasping in pain, his hands balled up in a fist over his groin. He turned
eyes reddened with anger up at her. Kyetta's breath caught in her throat.
/Oh, no,/ she thought silently, "I'm going to die, I'm sure of it!/
He came at her with speed born of anger. She felt her head explode in
pain, bright stars floated in front of her shimmering vision. She felt his
hand connect with her face again, this time open palmed. Her left cheek
stung, but her vision was coming back to normal. She saw his fist heading
toward her again.
This time it connected with her midsection. She doubled over in pain.
"Are you going to tell me where he went?" Pinath grated out between clenched
teeth.
Kyetta, holding her stomach, tears steaming down her cheeks, looked him
defiantly in the eyes. "Go to hell, you son of a bitch!"
He balled his fists up again, this time he punched her in the face.
Kyetta glared at him, her eyes digging into his soul, just before she passed
out. He looked down at her unconscious form and kicked her non-to gently in
the side, just below her ribs.
She didn't even cry out or move. Pinath walked out of the room, not
caring if he left the woman lying in the room to die or not. She didn't
matter to him.

**********************************************************

Kuilian glanced at the dark sky above them, the sun had set hours ago,
but they had only started their journey a few short minutes ago. Something
was wrong; he could feel it in his heart. He'd tried contacting Kyetta, but
she was unresponsive. He'd managed to contact Iterias, but his brother was
evasive and refused to talk to him about Kyetta. Something had happened; he
could feel it, but what?
Trunks walked besides him, but the half Saiyan Prince was in his own
world just as much as Kuilian was. Behind them walked Vegeta and Gohan, and
just behind them came Krillin, Android 18, Goten and Pan. Vegeta and Gohan
had both insisted that the woman stay behind, at a meadow they had decided to
use as a base camp. Of coarse Videl, Chichi and Bulma hadn't been very keen
on the idea, but someone needed to stay behind and watch Bra, Trunks had
pointed out. Bra wasn't to bought on the idea of having to stay behind
either, but she wasn't about to argue with her father over the matter, not
this time at least.
Vegeta quickened his pace to catch up with Kuilian and Trunks. "What's
happened?" He asked, looking at the sullen faces on both young men.
"I'm not sure," Kuilian conceded. "I fear something has happened to
Kyetta." His voice was low and full of misery.
"Why?" Vegeta asked.
"I can not reach her."
"Perhaps she's asleep," Trunks said quietly.
"Arianna is asleep right now, you try contacting her." Kuilian said, his
voice heavy.
Trunks looked confusedly at the young man. "I don't know how." He
finally said.
"Just think what you want to say to her and say it, in your mind. She
will be able to hear you."
Trunks looked at him, his eyebrows raised in curiosity. /Arianna?/ He
thought, his mind unsure of what he was trying to do. /Arianna, can you hear
me?/
He got no response and was just about to tell Kuilian that he couldn't do
it, when he felt a gentle caress. He stopped in surprise, Kuilian actually
smiled. Trunks eyes opened wide in surprise. "I didn't hear anything
though," He said, looking at Kuilian in confusion.
"Open your mind up to her. She's awake now, and is trying to make
contact." Kuilian's eyes were still filled with sorrow. Kyetta was still
unreachable to him.
/Arianna?/ Trunks questioned, feeling extremely silly talking to
himself.
The thought burst in his mind, /Yes, I'm here./ Her voice was soft and
musical, but lying underneath was pain and despair. His heart burst from the
pain he had caused her.
/I love you Arianna,/ He said, his heart aching with each word.
She was quiet for quite some time and he feared he had said the wrong
thing, /But hadn't Kuilian told me that she loved me too?/ He thought
despondently.
/Trunks?/ Her voice was soft, like she was crying.
/Yes?/
/I love you too./ He heard, and his face broke out in a brilliant smile.
"We're here," Kuilian interrupted Trunks pleasant thoughts. Up ahead, a
barrier shimmered to life, and just beyond stood ships like nothing the young
man had ever seen in his entire life. They were still far enough away that
no one could see them, and the woods hid them well, but Trunks still sank
back into the cool shadows of the forest.
"I'll let Kylar know we're hear, it'll only take a moment." Kuilian
said, his voice still held that melancholy sound, but he seemed less
saddened.
/Soon,/ Trunks thought, /Soon Arianna, we'll have you out of there!/
He felt her mental caress and smiled in spite of himself.
